Is based on the MQB Platform.
The 2015 VW Passat, the eighth iteration of the popular nameplate, has been showcased at the Paris Motor Show 2014. The new gen car premiered in Berlin in July and will launch in India next year.
The B8 Passat's design is a sharper interpretation of the previous gen model. The overall stance is wider and lower, giving the executive saloon a sporty character. Based on the MQB platform, the 2015 Passat is claimed to be up to 85 kg lighter than its predecessor.
Inside, the dashboard design is a full rethink, yet unmistakably Volkswagen. The high-end variants sport a flat-bottomed steering wheel and customizable Active Info Display which is borrowed from the new Audi TT. The rectangular aircon vents are camouflaged by the color-coordinated dashboard trim.
The powertrain lineup consists of 10 turbocharged direct injection petrol and diesel engines with power outputs ranging from 120 PS to 280 PS. The fuel efficiency has been improved by 20% and there is a plug-in hybrid variant for the first time, with 211 PS of combined output and 50 km of pure electric range.
Besides the usual equipment, the car is packed with Emergency Assist, City Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring, Traffic Jam Assist and Trailer Assist.
More details about powertrain and features are available in the press release below.
