The new Mahindra Scorpio which was launched in Mumbai yesterday has reached the national capital for a starting price of INR 8.4 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
To recap, the new Scorpio is based on a new hydroformed ladder frame chassis which is claimed to have better longitudinal stiffness and crash worthiness. Mahindra engineers have also worked on numerous aspects like the fully sealed and fused wheel end-bearings to reduce the weight.
In terms of design, the Safari Storme rival ditches its aging character for a more aggressive and younger appeal. The interior is where the progression to the next generation is felt the most.
The highly successful product has retained its engine options. The entry level S2 variant is powered by a 2.5-litre m2DiCR diesel engine putting out 75 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The rest of the lineup gets the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel motor which develops 120 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. The 5-speed manual gearbox is new.
