It is no secret that Toyota has started work on the next generation of its popular people-mover, the Innova. Prototypes of the MPV with near production-ready body panels have been spotted on tests, both in India and in Thailand.

The new Innova is based on an all-new platform.

Sources had previously told Indian Autos Blog that the new Innova is expected to launch in India in 2016, though a world debut would take place next year. Further bolstering this fact is Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMPC) president, Mr. Michinobu Sugata, who told a publication that the new Innova will most likely roll out next year.

Mr. Sugata announced yesterday that TMPC will be investing 2 billion pesos (INR 2.75 billion) to improve its parts localization for the new Innova. Currently, TMPC imports even the pressed body parts of the car from Thailand, but it will increase localization to more than 30 percent for the next gen model. Pressed parts itself will take up 50 percent of the investment.
