Maruti Suzuki launched the Maruti Celerio Green CNG variant today at INR 4.68 lakhs (ex-Showroom, New Delhi). The Celerio Green is available only in the VXi manual transmission trim.
The Celerio Green gets factory fitted iGPI technology (intelligent Gas Port Injection). The CNG tank is located in the boot of the car, and Maruti is yet to confirm (even through the brochure) how much it eats into the boot space. The spare wheel is now located alongside the CNG tank.
Power for the Celerio CNG comes from the same 1.0-liter three-cylinder K-Series engine. The engine produces 68 PS and 90 Nm of torque in petrol mode and 59 PS and 78 Nm of torque in CNG mode. A switch on the dashboard allows the driver to change fuel modes.
Maruti says that the tank features a leak-proof design and an integrated harness for added safety. The suspension of the hatchback has been modified as well to offset the extra load at the rear.
The Celerio delivers 31.79 km/kg in CNG mode according to ARAI tests, while operating in petrol mode sees the hatch return 22.02 km/l. Maruti's CNG portfolio now extends to six models: Alto 800, Wagon R, Ertiga, SX4, Eeco and Celerio.
