2014 will see Ford Motor Company launch a whopping 23 products across the globe, with 16 of them being planned for the American market. Apart from the models, the company will also create 5,000 jobs in the US.
In 2014, Ford will also inaugurate three manufacturing facilities – one manufacturing site and engine facility each in Chongqing, China and another new manufacturing unit in Brazil. Two new engines will join the existing EcoBoost family. One is said to be a 2.3-liter engine, while the other still remains under wraps. These two engines will take the size of the EcoBoost family to 10 engines.
John Fleming, executive VP, Ford global manufacturing, said –
This is the fastest and most aggressive manufacturing expansion the company has undergone in 50 years. The last time Ford was like this, Eisenhower was the US president.
Ford’s job hiring spree will move to Asia too as the company announced that it will hire 6,000 more people in Asia – of which a large majority are likely to be taken on as hourly employees. Ford’s had a fantastic 2013 with its hybrid models, with the company selling close to 80,000 units in November alone. According to Ford, it is on track to make 6 million vehicles in 2013, which translates to 16 cars/minute.
