Ashok Leyland's 'Optare' bus brand foraying into Germany this year

According to a report on Allrad-News.de, Optare, Europe's largest manufacturer of hybrid and pure electric buses is preparing to enter the German market.

A group company of the Hinduja Group, Optare is conducting discussions with representatives of reputed German transport companies to crystallize its strategy. The aim is to establish a sales and service network in Germany this year.

The purely electric Versa models, planned for the German market, can be charged completely in under two hours. Their range is in the city is about 120 kilometers. These models and other electric buses from Optare have proved that they are practical by serving the public in many British cities. Currently in the UK more than 150 hybrid-electric buses from Optare have entered operation, the report adds.

In October, Optare will present its products at the international trade fair 'Busworld' in Belgium. Until then, the efforts are diverted towards establishing a sales and service network in Germany, one of Europe's largest market for buses. In 2014, a new Optare double decker model is expected on the market, which could be a suitable inclusion for the German lineup.
