The wait for the most awaited hatchback of 2011 just got a bit longer. As much as IAB wants to get its hands on the 2011 Maruti Suzuki Swift, we are afraid that all of us will have to wait for another quarter for the actual launch. This time, it is the labor-management relationship to blame.
The recent Labor-Management standoff at Maruti’s Manesar plant has taken a toll on production. With 7 days of absolutely no cars being made in the factory, most models now have a considerably long waiting list, especially the diesel ones. The firm expects a revenue loss of a whopping Rs. 270 crore.
As a result, Maruti Suzuki will take some time to tide over this huge revenue loss and get the production back to normal. In order to reduce the waiting periods, Maruti Suzuki has opted to delay the launch of the 2011 Maruti Swift by a whole quarter. Earlier, expected in July-August, the car will now only be unwrapped after September. What a Bummer!
In a way, Maruti Suzuki will also benefit from this delay because the new Swift will now come out in the festive season of Diwali, which is considered the best period to launch any new car.
However, considering the Toyota Liva will be launched on the 27th of this month, a lot of people may choose not to wait for the 2011 Swift and book a Liva instead. Adding to that, the Honda Brio will also make its debut in the festive season (if not earlier) giving tough competition to the Swift.
Anyone waiting for the 2011 Swift? What are your reactions?
