The VW Polo GT TSI, the hatchback that was eagerly anticipated by the petrolheads, is finally here!
The Polo GT TSI takes up the position of the Polo 1.6 variant which was phased out. The advantage of the GT is that, it comes with a 1.2 litre engine that complies with the sub-four metre rule, enabling VW to price it competitively.
The 1.2 litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine generates a healthy 105 bhp and a diesel-like torque of 175 Nm. The numbers may not be over the roof, but given that the peak torque is available as early as 1,500 rpm, the Polo GT gets to triple digit speed from standstill in a reasonably quick 9.7 seconds.
The sprint is further enhanced by a quick shifting 7-Speed DSG gearbox which is the only transmission option. Aided by the extra ratios, the top speed stands at an impressive 190 kmph! Sadly, the hot hatch doesn't offer paddle shifters. The car promises an ARAI certified fuel economy of 17.2 kmpl. The Polo GT TSI grips the road via 180/60-R15 tires.
The turbocharged hatchback is visually set apart from its regular siblings by GT badges on both the front and rear fascias as well as GT TSI stickers on the C-Pillar.
The seats are upholstered in contrasting grey and black color theme while the gear selector knob and handbrake lever are trimmed in leather. Other noteworthy features are the illuminated door sills and sporty pedals.
The Polo GT TSI is positioned as the top of the line petrol variant and is aimed at driving enthusiasts. Priced at Rs. 7.99 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), the VW Polo GT TSI emerges as a tempting choice for petrolheads who are on the lookout for an adrenalin pumping set of wheels this side of Rs. 10 lakhs.
