Yesterday, IAB reported that Maruti Suzuki has started shipping the Toyota Glanza to dealerships and that 364 units of the rebadged Baleno have been dispatched in the first lot. Now, a spy video showing a red Toyota Glanza for the first time has surfaced online.
The Toyota Glanza is nothing more than a reskinned Maruti Baleno and even when the launch is just a month away the company is still tight-lipped about revealing any more details on the car. The only official activity around the Glanza has been the release of its teaser and the launch of its official website and social media handles. Spy media has revealed that there is barely any difference between the Toyota Glanza and its donor car (Maruti Baleno).
The Toyota Glanza is differentiated from the Maruti Baleno with only a unique radiator grille with two horizontal chrome slats. Elsewhere, only the branding and equipment line nomenclature is what is different. This has understandably been done to keep the development and production costs as low as possible.
Like the exterior, the interior is expected to be carried over from the Maruti Baleno with minimal differences, perhaps even less so. The design may be identical to that of its donor car, and maybe even the trim and upholstery would be the same. In that case, the branding will be the only change inside the cabin. Toyota Kirloskar Motor will sell the Glanza in only two trims, namely G and V. These will be equivalent to the Baleno's Zeta and Alpha grades respectively.
While the Maruti Baleno is available with three engine options, the Toyota Glanza will be powered by the K12M 1.2L VVT petrol engine as standard. This naturally aspirated four-cylinder mill produces 61 kW (82.94 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. While a standard 5-speed manual transmission is a given, a CVT is expected as an option. The fuel economy rating should be 21.01 km/l (MT)/19.56 km/l (CVT).
