The Toyota Etios series is Toyota Kirloskar Motor's prime focus for next three years and it seems the Japanese car maker's Indonesian subsidiary also values the Etios highly.
According to Oto.detik.com, the Etios hatchback preparing to pack its bags and head to Indonesia this year. There's no shock and awe hear, Indian Autos Blog readers were updated from the spot of the Indonesian Etios's commercial shoot with spyshots. The site quotes Mr. Joko Trisanyoto, Marketing Director of PT Toyota Motor, who states that the car will be launched in Indonesia in 2013, however he declined to mention a more specific time period.
The Etios hatchback which is expected to shed its Liva tag in Indonesia will be powered by the same 1.2 litre petrol motor as the Indian car. The three cylinder engine generates 80PS of power and is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Indonesian Etios will be locally assembled at the company's upcoming plant which is funded by six other group companies including Daihatsu. The CKD kits of the car are likely to be shipped from India, but there's no confirmation on this yet.
The Etios hatchback is expected to participate in the Indonesian government's Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) scheme which offers tax concession if the car meets the preset norms.
Just like in India, the Etios will have a capable competition in the form of the Honda Brio which was launched there recently and the Nissan March (Nissan Micra). The new Mitsubishi Mirage is also waiting to welcome the Etios hatchback in Indonesia.
With Etios sales in India and Brazil not promising much, Toyota would be hoping that Indonesia offers some much needed warm hospitality.
