The Etios came away from the test with a 4 star rating (of a maximum 5 stars) for adult safety and 2 stars (of a maximum 5 stars) for child safety. Both the airbags deployed in time to save the dummies.

The Latin NCAP is an FIA body which is responsible for evaluating the safety of cars sold in Latin American countries. The crash test was conducted at the ADAC facility in Germany and involved a frontal collision at a speed of 64 kmph.

Among the other cars that are subjected to the destructive test are the Ford Fiesta hatchback and Honda City both of which topped the sheet with 4 start ratings for adult as well as child safety. The 6th generation VW Polo followed the duo closely with a 4 and 3 star rating for adult and child safety respectively. The Nissan Micra (March) fared badly registering 2 stars in both categories for cars tested with airbags.
