Brings an updated interior, tech and engine range.
The facelifted versions of the Avensis and Auris made their debuts at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, showcasing an updated design, interior, tech and engine range.
Toyota Avensis
The new Toyota Avensis will be available in both sedan and estate flavors. The Ford Mondeo rival features a new front-end design with a more aggressive front bumper and larger air intakes, plus a slim top grille design flanked by angular headlamps with integrated LED DRLs.
The side profile remains largely identical to the current model. At the back, it features new taillights and a refreshed rear bumper and tailgate.
The interior now comes with new build materials and an updated cabin design. The Avensis will also be the one of the first models to get Toyota’s Safety Sense collision avoidance pack and other active safety technologies.
Toyota has announced two new diesel units for the car, a 1.6-litre D-4D that develops 110 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 270 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 2,250 rpm, and making its first appearance in a Toyota, a 2.0-litre D-4D unit that delivers 141 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. The existing petrol engines provide higher mileage and lower emissions.
Toyota Auris
Accompanying the facelifted Avensis is the new Auris. Subtle exterior facelifts, a more premium interior, new safety tech and a more efficient engine range round up the changes in tow.
The second generation Toyota Auris was first introduced in 2013. However, with rivals already passing out facelifts, Toyota felt the need to do the same with the Auris hatchback. The facelift adds a sharper front-end with an updated grille design, accentuated with extra chrome. The rear also features a set of updated taillamp, and a slightly refreshed rear bumper.
The facelifts mostly focuses on the interior, where the new Auris gets a host of updates including upmarket materials, new technologies and Toyota's 'Safety Sense' safety pack, which features front crash assist, advanced radar cruise-control and rear cross-traffic detection.
The Auris gains a new 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine that develops 114 bhp and 185 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm, and a 1.6-liter diesel engine that develops 110 bhp and maximum torque of 270 Nm between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. All the engines are upgraded to meet Euro 6 norms.
