Tata Motors has announced that the cumulative sales of the Tiago have crossed 2 lakh units, and this count doesn’t include exports. The entry-level hatchback is the company’s best-selling model.
Designed with inputs from designers in Pune, UK and Italy, the Tiago debuted the IMPACT design language and started a new journey of success for Tata Motors. It competes with the Maruti WagonR, Maruti Celerio, Hyundai Santro and Datsun GO in our market.
Tata Motors launched the Tiago in April 2016. Right in the first year, it became the company’s best-selling model. Also, it was the only Tata Motors model in the top-10 selling cars list for 2016. By July 2017, the bookings had reached 1 lakh units, and the production reached this number in October the same year.
Initially, Tata Motors was offering the Tiago in 10 configurations. Now, thanks to the introduction of an AMT, a rugged NRG variant and a JTP performance variant, as well as the launch of new equipment lines, the range has increased to 25 configurations. The prices start at INR 4,20,500 (ex-showroom Delhi) and go up to INR 6,49,147 (ex-showroom Delhi). Last year, a limited-edition ‘Wizz’ model was also launched.

In April 2020, when the BSVI emission norms become effective, the Tata Tiago will have turned four years old. Tata Motors will probably club the BSVI upgrade and the mid-cycle refresh together and roll out the new car at the end of this year or early next year. The company has started testing the facelifted model, spy shots have revealed.
