Tata Motors is gearing up to produce the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor in record volumes this festive season. The plant in Sanand, Gujarat, which makes the models, hit 100 percent utilization this month, prompting India's third largest carmaker to add a third shift to increase production by about 20 percent. The third shift will start before the festive season, which every year sees a spike in vehicle sales.
TML has consistently sold (wholesale) 10,000+ units of the Tiago and Tigor combined for the months of May, June and July 2018 (10,131 units in May, 11,001 units in June and 10,278 units in July). With the addition of the third shift, production volumes of the Tiago and Tigor are expected to exceed 12,000 units setting a new record for these entry level vehicles.
The Tiago and Tigor are powered by 1.2-liter three-cylinder Revotron petrol and 1.05-liter three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engines. The petrol engine is good for 85 PS and 114 Nm of torque, and the diesel is rated at 70 PS and 140 Nm of torque. While the petrol gets the option of a 5-speed manual and automated manual transmission, the diesel is available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Tata Tigor is priced from INR 4.84 to INR 7.19 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi whereas the Tata Tiago goes from INR 3.35 lakhs to INR 5.99 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi.
