Tata Safari Storme leaping into the airReplying to Indian Autos Blog's query on the Safari Storme, the official Tata Safari twitter account responded today tweeting "The launch dates of #TataSafari Storme will be announced soon."

The wait for the Safari Storme has been long and arduous. Shown first at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, the Storme sits on the Aria platform and marked improvements in ride and handling, similar to the Aria's levels, are expected on the Safari Storme.

Tata is apparantly endowing the Aria with the smallest turning radius in its class and has improved the powertrain package. The car comes with the same 2.2L CRDI engine with 140PS/320Nm mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with lower NVH values. Like the current model, both 2WD to 4WD versions will be placed on the market.

The new Safari gets projector headlamps, chrome embellishments and a spare wheel relocated to under the rear seats.

The interior is defined by better quality, fit and finish. A dual AC with integrated roof-mounted blower for the passengers at the back is an important feature during the hot weather months. We did not see premium features such as steering-mounted controls, cruise control, infotainment system, etc on the display models brought to the Auto Expo. These may have been omitted to keep costs low as the Safari has to compete with the Scorpio and Duster, and shouldn't elevate into the segment of the XUV500 or Yeti.

We hear that Tata Motors intends to keep the current Safari and position the Storme above it. We are hopeful of a launch in the following weeks, and will keep an eye on all developments. Stay tuned to IndianAutosBlog.com.
