In August, Maruti Suzuki launched the XL6, a rugged derivative of the Ertiga. Suzuki is considering this model for the South Africa, as per a local media report.
South Africa has a strong demand for MPVs and utilitarian vehicles. Even Renault's Tiber (seven-seat MPV) is now headed there. The report says that whether the six-seat layout will work for the market is under study.
The Maruti XL6 employs a BS-VI compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine which is rated to deliver a maximum power of 104.69 PS and a peak torque of 138 Nm. This engine works in conjunction with Suzuki's Progressive Smart Hybrid technology and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Compared to Ertiga, the XL6 is much bolder styling package. It has newly styled bumpers with faux skid plates, an upright upper grille, a new set of headlamps with quad-LED fixtures, black plastic cladding, black-painted alloy wheels and LED tail lights.

On the inside, the Maruti XL6 comes decorated with an all-black colour scheme with silver accents which gives the interior a more premium feel. Unlike the Ertiga which features a bench seat in the middle row, it offers captain seats in the second row.
