The Skoda Rapid has been launched as an entry-level sedan in the Nepalese market.
To get maximum launch traction, the stage was set at the NADA Auto Show 2012, where visitors thronged around the shiny new wares with their families to evaluate their next purchase.
Earlier in the week, Nissan and Hyundai launched their C Segment models in Nepal. Counting in the Rapid, all vehicles are locally manufactured in India and shipped to Nepal.
Nepal's finance minister, Mr. Barshaman Pun, unveiled the vehicle in three trims - Active, Ambition and Elegance. The car draws power from a 1.6-liter petrol engine that makes 105PS/153Nm.
Skoda officers highlighted specifications important to the local would-be customers such as the 168mm ground clearance that can tackle Nepal's road conditions and the 460 liter boot space, important to families that enjoy weekend outings or frequently travel out of town.
All variants are fitted with dust and pollen cabin filter, remote key, anti-pinch windows and air con vent for the rear passengers. The top-end models boasts of premium amenities such as 15-inch alloy wheels, electrically-adjustable ORVM and electronic cabin temperature regulation feature.
Available in five body colors, the Skoda Rapid is priced at Rs 2.99 million (18.65 lakhs) for the Active, Rs 3.37 million (21.02 lakh) for the Ambition and 3.69 million (23.02 lakh) for the Elegance.
