Nissan have confirmed today to IndianAutosBlog.com that the Almera for South Africa is shipped from India.
The Nissan Almera (Nissan Sunny for India) has been launched in South Africa.
Back then at its debut in China in 2010, Nissan announced that the Sunny is a global model that's destined to reach over 100 markets.
This month, South Africa joins the list of countries that retail the spacious sedan which is underpinned by the 'V' Platform. According to multiple news reports in the South African internet media, According to Nissan, the Almera, launched in SA, is sourced from its manufacturing plant in Oragadam, India. Nissan India is also exporting the Sunny to other countries in the African continent such as Algeria.
The South African spec Nissan Almera is powered by the same 1.5 litre petrol engine as the Indian Sunny. This motor develops 97.8 bhp and 134 Nm of torque and comes mated either to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox (the automatic transmission is the X-Tronic CVT).
Available in a single trim level, the Nissan Almera offers ABS with EBD, dual airbags, central locking with remote, exterior chrome detailing, powered wing mirrors, 15" alloy wheels, rear AC vents, audio system with USB connectivity and steering mounted controls, tilt adjustable steering wheel, and height adjustable driver's seat.
The Nissan Almera will compete in the B Segment making it a good bargain given its ample rear leg room and lengthy equipment list. The manual variant is priced at 165,000 Rand (around Rs. 10.18 lakhs) while the automatic variant will set you back by 175,000 Rand (around Rs. 10.80 lakhs). Alternatives to the Nissan Sunny in SA are the VW Polo Vivo sedan and the Toyota Etios.
