The MG Hector's series production has commenced ahead of schedule. Its launch is scheduled to take place next month.

MG Motor India will have a limited number of dealers initially. “50 dealers have been appointed and some 120 touchpoints are going to be there,” P Balendran, Executive Director, MG Motor India, told IAB on the sidelines of the drive.in event this week. The company has commenced the series production of the Hector ahead of schedule (20 April 2019). It plans to hold the launch of its first model next month.

The MG Hector will come with two engines, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit and a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel unit. The petrol engine will develop 143 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It will send drive to the wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Customers choosing this engine will get an option for a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

The MG Hector’s diesel engine is FCA’s MultiJet II unit that currently powers its arch rivals Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier in our market. It is expected to produce 173 hp and 350 Nm of torque. While a 6-speed manual transmission is a given, there’s no word on an automatic transmission option with this engine.
