Soon after digitally revealing the Hector to media, MG Motor India showcased it in metal to dealers. Here are its first live images from the dealer preview event.
MG Motor India will have a limited number of dealers initially. “50 dealers have been appointed and some 120 touchpoints are going to be there,” P Balendran, Executive Director, MG Motor India, told IAB on the sidelines of the drive.in event this week. The company has commenced the series production of the Hector ahead of schedule (20 April 2019). It plans to hold the launch of its first model next month.
The MG Hector will come with two engines, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit and a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel unit. The petrol engine will develop 143 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It will send drive to the wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Customers choosing this engine will get an option for a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
The MG Hector’s diesel engine is FCA’s MultiJet II unit that currently powers its arch rivals Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier in our market. It is expected to produce 173 hp and 350 Nm of torque. While a 6-speed manual transmission is a given, there’s no word on an automatic transmission option with this engine.
Two-tier headlamps, panoramic sunroof, 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with TomTom IQ Maps navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 5G-ready eSIM and 360-degree camera are some of the equipment highlights the MG Hector. The C-SUV will come with best-in-class connectivity features. A 7-seat version is said to follow in 2019, although MG Motor India is yet to confirm it.
