MG Motor India is off to a brilliant start in the market with the launch of its maiden product, the Hector. Its next product will be the eZS pure electric SUV, which has been spied on test in Vadodara.
The MG eZS is 4,314 mm long, 1,809 mm wide and 1,620 mm/1,644 mm tall. It has a 2,585 mm wheelbase and a 161 mm ground clearance. The B-SUV powered by an electric motor which develops 110 kW (150 PS) of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. This electric motor is capable of pushing the vehicle off the 0-50 km/h mark in 3.1 seconds.
The electric motor draws its juice from a 44.5 kWh battery pack which is rated to deliver a maximum range of 335 km (NEDC). The battery pack takes about 6.5 hours to reach full charging in an AC charger, while a fast charger charges it to 80% in just 30 minutes. Its power consumption rating (NEDC) is 13.8 kWh/100 km
“That’s (MG eZS is) going to be a CBU programme,” P Balendran, Executive Director, MG Motor India, had told IAB in April this year. Local assembly would have followed if there was enough demand. However, the plan has been changed to localise right from the start, possibly to keep the costs under check and make it competitive against its arch-rival, the Hyundai Kona Electric. The Hyundai Kona Electric was recently introduced in the Indian market at INR 25.3 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). MG Motor India has confirmed that the Indian-spec eZS will feature its iSmart Next-Gen connectivity features.
