The MG ZS EV will have its national debut in India in December this year and go on sale early next year. According to Rajeev Chaba, the President and MD of MG’s Indian subsidiary, 2,000-,3,000 units of this EV are expected to be sold in our market annually.
The MG ZS EV was expected to be cheaper than its chief rival - the Hyundai Kona Electric, which is priced from INR 23.71 lakh (ex-showroom). However, Chaba suggests that it will be pricier instead. When asked about the pricing of the MG ZS EV recently, he said that it will be “around Rs 25 lakh”.
With an estimated 2,000-3,000 unit sales annually, the MG ZS EV won’t be a mainstream model in India. It will be a niche offering retailed at select MG outlets in the country, mostly in Tier I cities where there’s a decent EV charging network and enough customers ready to accept the pricey powertrain technology reside. Initially, the sales will take place in only Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
The MG ZS EV is 4,314 mm long, 1,809 mm wide and 1,620 mm/1,644 mm tall. It has a 2,585 mm wheelbase and a 161 mm ground clearance. Under the hood, is an electric motor generating 110 kW (150 PS) and 350 Nm of torque. A CATL-sourced 44.5 kWh battery pack is standard and it offers a range (NEDC) of 335 km. As in the case of the Hyundai Kona Electric, though, the range rated (ARAI) in Indian conditions may be higher.
