Land Rover SA is releasing a special run of Freelanders, which according to South African media sites, is presented to wipe the 'Mom's Taxi' tag the vehicle has picked up in SA. The Freelander 2 is the cheapest Land Rover model and is also assembled at a small factory in Chikhli, Pune.
Only 50 units of the 'Freelander LE' will be manufactured, costing R545,900 each (36.6 lakh rupees). It is powered by the same 2.2L turbo diesel rated at 187 hp and 420Nm paired to an automatic transmission.
The exterior of the Freelander 2 LE gets plenty of exclusive bodywork such as the special grille insert, fender vent and a gloss black rear signature strip. Also present are deeper front and rear bibs, a tailgate spoiler, side sills and, body-coloured door handles and mirrors, and 19 inch alloy wheels finished in black.
Inside, the car receives power-adjusted sports-style seats appointed in black leather sporting special logos on the head rests. The door panels and dashboard trim continue this theme. To emphasize on the sporty persona, Land Rover has adorned the interior with silver fascia trims and racing pedals.
Mechanical features are the same as the HSE derivative which include a Terrain Response System and a regenerative braking system. The car is equipped with a total of 7 airbags.
