Honda CBR 150R was launched in India in March 2012. After 5 years on sale, the motorcycle was discontinued due to low sales. However, it is still sold in other countries. Recently, Honda has launched the 2021 Honda CBR105R in Indonesia. Will this two-wheeler return to India? If yes, when is the Honda CBR 150R launch date in India?
Honda CBR 150R has been available since 2002. It was introduced as the younger sibling of the NSR150. It was launched in several markets in Asia and South Africa. In 2012, the CBR 150R made its way to our market. Even though the CBR 150R was packed with premium features and powerful performance, it was not able to appeal to Indian customers. The premium pricing is the main reason for its failure in our market.
Even though it was discontinued in India, the CBR 150R remains its popularity in other markets. Recently, Honda has given comprehensive updates to the CBR 150R in Indonesia. Let’s check out what is available on the 2021 Honda CBR 150R.
2021 Honda CBR 150R continues to make use of the old 149.16cc DOHC single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. This unit is able to churn out a top power of 17.1 PS and maximum torque of 14.4 Nm. The CBR 150R is paired to a 6-speed transmission. There is also an assist-and-slipper clutch that provides a smoother gearshifting experience. The CBR 150R is claimed to reach a top speed of 136 kmph. The mileage is claimed to be around 38 kmpl.
For the new 2021 version, the Honda CBR 150R now comes with Diamond Truss Frame and a more premium Showa SFF-BP adjustable-preload inverted fork for the front and mono-shock at the rear. It gets a 276mm single disc at the front and 220 mm single disc brake at the rear along with dual-ABS. It makes use of 17-inch alloy wheels for both the front and rear end.
As for the design, the Honda CBR 150R 2021 has also received some cosmetic updates. For example, the bike now gets LED at both the front and rear end, including dual LED headlights, LED taillight and LED turn indicators. Another highlight of the Honda CBR 150R is the full-digital LCD instrument console that includes a digital speedometer, tachometer, odometer, and fuel gauge. Besides, this unit also features low fuel warning, gear position indicator, engine temperature reading, gear shift light, service light and ABS warning light.
Overall, the CBR 150R still keeps its sporty fully-faired design and sharp fuel tank. Ther is the same tandem split seats with a small tail section. There are four colour options on offer: Red Black, Grey Red, Black Orange, and Matte Black.
Honda CBR 150R is on sale in two variants, ABS and non-ABS. In the Indonesian market, Honda CBR 150R is available from 35.9 million Rupiah to 40.8 million Rupiah, which is around Rs 1.86 lakh to Rs 2.12 lakh in Indian currency.
Honda CBR 150R is the direct rival of the Yamaha YZF R15.
It is unlikely that Honda will bring the Honda CBR 150R back to our market as it has already been approved that the Honda CBR 150R is quite pricy for a motorcycle of its category. Honda CBR 150R launch date in India is not available. Instead of the CBR 150R, the Japanese brand might launch the Honda CBR500R as a part of the 500cc parallel-twin lineup this year.
