GM has rolled out 1,00,000th engine from its facility at Talegoan, near Pune.
The powertrain manufacturing unit achieved this feat in just two years from establishment. The Talegoan powertrain facility is GM's first flexible engine factory in the world, both petrol and diesel engines can be produced simultaneously in the same facility.
The plant has an annual production capacity of 1,60,000 engines which can be further increased to 3,00,000 units per year once the Sail sedan and Enjoy MPV are launched in the coming year.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lowell Paddock, president and managing director of GM India told: "This is a proud moment for us all of us at GM India. Crossing the milestone of producing 100,000 engines at the powertrain plant is a testament of our commitment to the Indian market. With the launch of the Chevrolet Sail U-VA and the forthcoming launches of Chevrolet Sail and Chevrolet Enjoy, we will be stepping up the production at the plant. We look forward to achieving more milestones as we go ahead and offer best-in-segment cars in the Indian automobile market."
The facility currently produces the 1.0 litre diesel engine which powers the Chevrolet Beat and the 1.3 litre XSDE diesel that that is used by the Sail U-VA along with the petrol engines with are employed by the Chevy Spark (1.0 litre), Beat and Sail U-VA (both 1.2 litre).
