Mrs. Mary Barra, CEO of GM, will deliver the keynote address at SIAM's Annual Convention in September.
Financial Express reports that General Motors' global CEO Mrs. Mary Barra will be meeting Indian PM Mr. Narendra Modi next month. Her entourage is said to include the Chairman Mr. Tim Solso and Executive VP Consolidated International Operations, Mr. Stefan Jacoby.
The top officials of GM will also interact with members of the Indian auto industry during their visit and Mrs. Barra will be delivering the keynote address at this year's SIAM Annual Convention which is scheduled to happen on September 12.
The visit comes during a difficult time for GM India as it is struggling to extract volumes out of the domestic market. In the recent months, except for the aging Tavera people carrier and the Beat hatchback which are barely breaching the four-digit monthly sales mark, the rest of the models, including new launches Sail and Enjoy, have put up an abysmal show.
As a result of poor sales, GM India's manufacturing facilities - one in Talegaon, Maharashtra and one in Halol, Gujarat (PM Modi's home state) - are being heavily under utilized.
The Indian PM urged Ford to make its upcoming Gujarat plant a major export hub during a recent meeting with its newly appointed global CEO Mr. Mark Fields and the same outcome could be expected from the meeting with GM's head honcho.
