Ford India's first ever 2-door product.

Ford India has begun sending out invites to a new product launch scheduled for January 28. The only description of the product is that it's "an highly anticipated all-new vehicle".

The launch date and description falls in line with reports believing that Ford India will launch the all new Ford Mustang in India for the first time. It will be the first 2-door model from Ford India for the local market, and will be sold as a niche product that serves as the company's image builder. Unlike Ford India's product range, the Mustang will be imported via the CBU route and will not have serious volume ambitions.

The reason why the Mustang wasn’t available in India all this while is attributed to its availability only as a left-hand-drive variant, until the current generation. With the new Mustang, Ford has decided to enter new markets by offering it in right-hand-drive for the first time, and made accessible to to customers globally looking to own Ford's iconic pony car.

Spyshots of an RHD 'Stang' on Indian soil with tester plates surfaced in July 2015, which ignited rumors of its Indian launch. The model spotted was the Mustang GT Coupe, which packs a N/A 5.0-liter V8 engine paired to a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels only. It’s unclear if Ford India will also introduce the tradition defying Mustang EcoBoost variant, featuring a 2.3-liter four cylinder turbo petrol engine.
