Ford began producing the EcoSport at the Ford Thailand Manufacturing (FTM) facility in Rayong, Thailand, yesterday.
The Thai facility is now the fourth plant to make the car and joins India (Chennai), China (Chonqing) and Brazil (Camcari) in doing so.
In a bid to sell the EcoSport in 100 global markets, the Thai facility will not only cater to domestic demand but will also export the crossover "across the ASEAN region".
The EcoSport for Thailand is offered with a single engine option and in four trim levels (Ambiente MT, Ambiente AT, Trend AT and Titanium AT). Powering all variants is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine producing 110 hp and 142 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox and the 6-speed double-clutch automatic.
Prices of the Ford EcoSport in Thailand start at 669,000 Thai Baht (INR 12.72 lakhs) and the model is marketed as an "aspirational alternative to a compact car."
Matt Bradley, president, Ford ASEAN, said -
The all-new EcoSport continues our ongoing product-led transformation by providing customers with another segment-leading vehicle to our growing Ford showroom across our ASEAN markets. Produced at our highly flexible Ford Thailand Manufacturing facility, it is the next proof point in our continued growth strategy in the region.
