Ford started assembling the EcoSport at its Vietnamese plant located in Hai Duong last week sourcing kits from Thailand. Hai Duong becomes the fifth plant globally to build the EcoSport, joining facilities in Chennai, India; Chongqing, China; Camcari, Brazil; and Rayong, Thailand.
The Vietnamese EcoSport is made in five trim levels, all of which are powered by the 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine making 110 PS at 6,300 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. The transmission options include the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic and the 5-speed manual, both of which are seen on the Indian model.
All trim levels see the inclusion of driver and front passenger airbags, while the top-end variants get 7 airbags (dual front, driver's knee, front thorax and side and curtain airbags) apart from ABS and EBD. The Hill Launch Assist (HLA) is also seen on the top-end variant.
The EcoSport will arrive in Vietnamese showrooms this month. Prices start at 598 million Dong (INR 16.85 lakhs) and go up to 681 million Dong (INR 19.19 lakhs).
The next country that will manufacture the EcoSport is Tatarstan, Russia, making it six global factories for the baby crossover.
