Gets a 6-speed automatic transmission that shifts 50% faster.
GM Brazil has rolled out mechanical and feature updates to the 2016 Chevrolet Spin MPV. The LT and LTZ trims of the MPV now get some of those features which recently debuted in adventurous ‘Activ’ version. GM sells the Spin MPV in Brazil since July 2012 and the Activ trim was launched last November with a rugged exterior.
The highlight of the new upgrades is the second generation 6-speed (GF6-2) automatic transmission, which the company claims to be 50% faster in shifting time. A 5-speed manual gearbox is the other option for the family van.
The updated car’s cabin and dashboard is predominantly black, replacing the beige and coffee tone of the outgoing car. The LTZ and LT versions come with new instrument panel graphics, and the speedometer and fuel gauge are digital.
The Spin’s equipment list includes power steering, ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, theft alarm and automatic windows and door locks. The LT and LTZ versions come with "Dark Chrome" smoked headlamps with clear lenses. The most-equipped LTZ variant also gets Chevrolet MyLink multimedia system, USB input, steering-mounted audio controls, and rear parking sensor and new metallic color options.
The engine, however, remains the same 1.8-liter EconoFlex petrol attuned for ethanol mix, which develops up to 108 horsepower and 167.6 Nm of torque, enabling the car to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 10.6 seconds.
The Spin for India, which is announced to launch in 2016, is expected use the 1.3-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine (Fiat MultiJet unit), and perhaps the 1.5-liter petrol unit. The company has already started testing the Ertiga challenger in India.
