Along with the announcement of the Trailblazer SUV's launch this year, GM India has also confirmed the launch of the Spin MPV for 2016. The company has already started testing the Spin in India.
Based on import/export data, the Spins testing in India are imported from Indonesia and are powered by a 1.3-liter diesel engine (Fiat-sourced MultiJet engine).
Currently on sale in markets like Indonesia, Thailand and Brazil, the Spin measures 4,360 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width and 1,656 mm in height. Apart from the diesel unit, Chevrolet also offers the car with 1.2- and 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engines. A manual transmission is standard, while a 6-speed automatic is available with the 1.5-liter petrol.
Chevrolet also launched a crossover-styled variant on the Spin called the Spin Activ, at the Sao Paulo Motor Show last year. It gets an external spare wheel, skid guards, body cladding and roof rails along with new alloy wheels.
The Spin in India would be positioned as a more premium alternative to the Enjoy. Where the Enjoy targets private and fleet buyers, the Spin would solely appeal to the former, sources told Indian Autos Blog.
Competitors: Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga
Launch date: 2016
