Will be put into production next year.
GM India today unveiled the Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan concept at the ongoing Auto Expo 2016. The concept will be put into production as a sub-4m compact sedan at GM's plant in Talegaon in 2017.
Sticking with the American nomenclature of 'notchback', Chevrolet is calling the Chevrolet Essentia a "traditional but richly appointed notchback". The sub-4m sedan is claimed to be rich in content and in space. The sedan will fit five adults and luggage, GM claims, "without any compromise to style."
The Essentia concept is underpinned by the familiar platform housing the popular Chevrolet Beat hatchback. The concept has been designed at GM' Korea Design Studio. The car's design has seen it travel from GM's studio in India through to Korea.
GM India has said that the production version of the Essentia will be equipped with the Chevrolet MyLink2, an infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto softwares. Active and passive safety features like dual airbags, ABS and a reverse camera will also be provided.
The compact sedan, when rolled out, will compete with the usual suspects Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent.
