The current-gen Skoda Octavia was originally introduced back in 2013 and received a facelift in 2017. Previously, it was reported that Skoda will be launching the next-gen Octavia in India by the end-2020, and the new model now looks set to make its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year.
The 2020 Skoda Octavia will retain the notchback design, and will be based on an updated version of the MQB platform. Internationally, the new model will be even available in a station wagon format. Overall, the exterior of the next-gen Octy will match Skoda's latest design language, as seen on the Scala and Kamiq. That said, it will retain the large hatch opening, whilst sporting a more elegant, sedan-like silhouette.
The front of the car will see some major revisions in the form of a new single-piece headlight design which will replace the current split-type setup. Also, the front grille will be sleeker and wider. The next-gen Octavia is expected to be equipped with LED lights at both the ends. Also, its higher trims will have the Matrix LED headlight setup, which has been even seen in the upcoming Superb. At the rear, the traditionally mounted Skoda logo will be replaced by the brand lettering. The new car is even expected to feature a more premium interior setup, finished in higher quality materials. Additional features could include voice control, head-up display, soft-touch materials, and the likes.
Under the hood, the 2020 Skoda Octavia will feature a number of petrol and diesel engine options, while even a 48V mild-hybrid setup could be on offer. For the Indian market, Skoda may bring the new 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine. Also, the current BS-IV-compliant 2.0-litre diesel mill shall be updated to achieve BS-VI compliance.
