After Ather Energy and Okinawa Autotech, Ampere Electric has announced the revised price of its products. The new, lowered prices are a result of GST rate cut for all-electric vehicles. Regular readers would know that the government has reduced the GST rate to 5% (from 12%) on electric vehicles.

The Ampere Electric scooters are now cheaper by INR 2,000 to INR 5,000. Check out the revised prices (vs. old rates) in the table below:

The V-48 LA has received the lowest price decrease (INR 2,000), while the Zeal has received the maximum benefit (INR 5,000) among the complete portfolio. With the price reduction, the entry-level model is available from INR 34,000*. The range-topping Zeal now retails at INR 67,000*.
In comparison, the Okinawa Autotech’s Lead Acid range got cheaper by INR 2,500-4,700. Its Li-ion range got a price cut of INR 3,400-8,600. Ather Energy’s 340 and 450 got cheaper by INR 8,187 and INR 8,932 in Bangalore.
Do note that Ampere Electric is among the five electric two-wheeler manufacturers who qualify under the FAME-II guidelines and benefit from the subsidy. Other brands to benefit from FAME-II subsidy include Ather Energy, Okinawa Autotech, Jitendra Electric Vehicles and Hero Electric. In comparison, as many as 88 models from 18 manufacturers were eligible for the subsidy under the FAME-I scheme.
The new eligibility criteria for the FAME subsidy bring revised parameters to gain from the subsidy. The parameters include a minimum top speed of 40 km/h, a range of at least 80 km per charge and regenerative braking system.

While electric vehicles are benefiting by FAME-II subsidy, reduced GST rates and other tax benefits, internal combustion vehicles are soon likely to suffer from revised registration charges. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has proposed a 10 to 20 fold increase in the Registration Charges of new vehicles, Check out the proposed changes to the registration fee and the existing charges in the table below:
