Royal Enfield Bullet, Bullet Electra (Bullet ES) recalled for faulty brake calliper bolt

Royal Enfield has issued a recall for its Bullet and Bullet Electra (Bullet ES) models due to a faulty brake calliper bolt. The recall affects almost 7,000 units that were manufactured between 20 March 2019 and 30 April 2019.

Nearly 7,000 units of the Royal Enfield Bullet and Bullet Electra (Bullet ES) have been recalled over a faulty brake calliper bolt.

The affected motorcycles will get a replacement of the brake calliper bolt free of cost at authorised service centres. This is what the company announced in a statement:

This is because service investigations revealed that the torque maintained on brake calliper bolts, as supplied by the vendor, on a few of these motorcycles were not as per stringent Royal Enfield quality standards. Brake calliper bolt is an essential part of braking system securing the brake hose and brake calliper. This voluntary service action will be undertaken on close to 7,000 motorcycles that were retailed during the said period. All concerned customers are being called for a service intervention, and various stakeholders are being informed accordingly.

The recall affects both, 350 cc and 500 cc variants of the Bullet range. To give you a recap, below are the prices of these models:

The Royal Enfield Bullet 350 ES ('ES' for Electric Start) was previously called the Royal Enfield Bullet Electra. The Bullet 350 and the Bullet 350 ES share a 346 cc single-cylinder engine that makes 19.8 bhp at 5,250 rpm and 28 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 499 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor of the Bullet 500 develops 27.2 bhp at 5,250 rpm and 41 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Both motors are linked to a 5-speed gearbox.

The Royal Enfield Bullet 350 and the Bullet 350 ES features a single-channel ABS while the Bullet 500 has a dual-channel unit. The addition of dual-channel ABS-equipped to Royal Enfield models resulted in a price hike of INR 12,000-14,000. The Bullet 350 and the Bullet 350 ES, on the other hand, received a price hike of approximately INR 3,500 and INR 1,100 respectively.

In more updates, Royal Enfield has delivered negative sales results for the sixth consecutive month. The company's sales dropped by 17% Y-o-Y in April 2019 to 62,879 units as against 76,187 units in the corresponding month last year.
