The 2019 Skoda Superb has been officially unveiled. Here's a detailed comparison between the facelifted and pre-facelift models.

Skoda Superb 2019 1
The 2019 Superb is Skoda's first model equipped with full LED Matrix headlights.

Starting with the design, the changes brought with the mid-cycle refresh, as expected, are subtle. At the front, the Skoda Superb now comes with narrower, full LED Matrix headlights - a first for a Skoda. The new headlights consist of an LED module for the dipped and high beam, three additional LED high beam segments, a static LED cornering light, a narrow LED DRL strip that doubles as turn indicator and needle-like LED structures that are part of the animated Coming/Leaving Home function.

The radiator grille now bears double slats, is larger and protrudes a little further down into the bumper, which also is in a new design. The redesigned bumper has increased the length by 8 mm to 4,869 mm. Speaking of things redesigned, the fog lights are also new. The fog lights have switched from halogen to LED technology, which allows for a more compact footprint. They comprise four LED light sources.

On the sides, there are new alloy wheels available in 18-and 19-inch sizes. At the rear-end sits new redesigned full LED tail lights which come with dynamic rear indicators that illuminate in an outward sweeping motion. At the rear, there's a full-width chrome strip between the tweaked tail lamps, which flaunt dynamic turn indicators, and wide-spaced, Skoda block lettering.

On the inside, the new Skoda Superb comes with new chrome highlights on the instrument panel and door trims, new decorative trims for the centre console and dashboard and new coloured contrasting stitching on the leather and Alcantara seats as well as on the armrests in the doors. The Ambition and Style trims have received new seat covers. The L&K grade has gained an option of an Alcantara roof lining in black or beige including lined roof pillars. The facelifted model has a new, enlarged Phone Box.

The Skoda Superb now features Predictive Cruise Control which automatically slows down/adjust the speed of the car using the images from the camera on the windscreen and data from the navigation system by detecting oncoming traffic, turns or speed restrictions. The car features new Emergency Assist for multi-lane roads as well. This system automatically steers the car to the roadside in an emergency situation. It uses Lane Assist and Park Assist as well as the radar sensors belonging to Side Assist. Apart from this, the company has also kitted the car with Front Assist with Predictive Pedestrian Protection now.

For the first time in a Skoda, the facelifted Superb has a new electromechanical brake booster and aerodynamic covers on the rear axle suspension for improved stability. There are six conventional engines to choose from.

The mid-cycle refresh marks the arrival of a plug-in hybrid variant with an 'iV' suffix. The Superb iV is Skoda's first-ever plug-in hybrid vehicle. It uses a combination of a 115 kW (156 PS) 1.4L TSI petrol engine and an 85 kW (115 PS) electric motor. Both together deliver a maximum power of 160 kW (218 PS) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. A 6-speed DSG is standard in the electrified variant. The electric motor gets its juice from a 13 kWh battery that can be charged using a standard plug socket or in 3.5 hours using a wall box with a charging output of 3.6 kWh. Using only the energy stored in the battery, the car can go up to 55 km (WLTP cycle).
