Tata Motors will manufacture every entry-level model, be it a hatchback, a sedan or a crossover, at its Sanand plant. These models will include the production version of the H2X Concept from this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

Tata Motors plans to manufacture every model positioned below the Altroz at the Sanand plant in Gujarat. “Sanand is going to be a dedicated Alfa architecture plant for the lower-end of the product portfolio,” Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD, Tata Motors, told carandbike in Geneva. “We currently also produce the Tiago and Tigor - which will undergo a mid-cycle enhancement, so there we still have some time - and then we will see how this is going to translate,” he added.

The Tata Harrier is built from an all-new assembly line at the Pune plant, and the Tata Altroz and Tata Buzzard will join it there later this year. The Sanand plant is not designed for manufacturing big models. “Sanand is designed to actually produce vehicles up to four metres roughly,” Butschek said.

The Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor will switch from X0 platform to the Advanced Modular Platform with their lifecycle makeover next decade. Their production will remain in Gujarat. Later, the Tata Nexon, which is built at the FCA-Tata Motors JV plant in Ranjangaon, will transition from the X1 platform to the Advanced Modular Platform. The reports suggest that its production should remain in Maharashtra.
