The Tata Altroz EV is the first of the next generation EVs from the homegrown automaker. According to a new report from Autocar India, it is likely to cost over INR 10 lakh.
With the Tata Tigor EV itself costing INR 11.2 lakh (inclusive of GST), that too for a government body (EESL), it was expected that the much more advanced Tata Altroz EV will not come cheap. An INR 10-lakh+ (ex-showroom) price was expected. Now, Shailesh Chandra, President - Electric Mobility Business & Corporate Strategy, Tata Motors, has suggested that the newly introduced EV will indeed cost above INR 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
“The segment above Rs 10 lakh is growing at a rapid pace and in the next 5-6 years, it will generate large volumes,” Chandra told the magazine. “With the Altroz EV, our focus is on offering strong performance, a different in-cabin experience with a flat floor structure and a floating console – all of which will be very different than what you would see typically in an IC engine vehicle,” he added.

The Tata Altroz EV measures 3,988 mm in length, 1,754 mm in width and 1,505 mm in height. It has a 2,501 mm wheelbase. Its battery pack can be charged from 0-80% in 1 hour, and on a full charge, it is expected to give a range of 250-300 km. The Tata Tigor EV’s battery pack, on the other hand, takes 6 hours (using a normal charger)/1.5 hours (using a fast charger) for a 0-80% charge and offers a range (MIDC cycle) of 130 km.
