Tata Motors is highly unlikely to sell the Altroz with a diesel engine, suggests a new report from ZigWheels. The company has premiered the new car at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show with a petrol engine.
Initially, it was expected that Tata Motors will offer the Nexon’s 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel engine in the Altroz. However, during the recent months, with more information about the high costs of BS-VI upgrade that has come to light, chances were slim. Now, people from the development team have said that it is almost certain that the company won’t offer a diesel engine in the new hatchback.
Previously, it has been reported that Tata Motors will introduce a newly developed 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine in Altroz and offer it with a mild-hybrid system optionally. Maybe the optional mild-hybrid system is what the company is focusing on instead of an expensive BS-VI diesel engine for the new flagship hatchback, for high economy seekers.
The display unit of the Tata Altroz at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, which is dubbed ‘Geneva Edition’ to avoid being assumed as a 100% production car, uses a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 75 kW (102 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 1,750-4,000 rpm. It is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The new report says that Tata Motors will launch the Altroz in India by June this year. The new hatchback will replace the Bolt and compete with the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai i20.
