Tata Motors had announced that the production-spec Tata 45X, which debuts at 2019 Geneva Motor Show this week, will be called 'Tata Altroz'. As a precursor to the global unveiling of the new model, the company has detailed the Maruti Baleno-rival's Alfa-Arc platform in a new video.

The new video highlights various features of the company's new Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) architecture. While the Altroz will be a sub-4-metre offering that will lock horns with the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20, the new platform can accommodate bigger models. The Tata 45X concept, which measured 4,252 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,451 mm in height, demonstrated the scalable nature of the new architecture.

What this means is that the Alfa-Arc has the potential to adapt multiple body styles, which is something that will be showcased by the Tata Hornbill micro-SUV. The new platform has been developed keeping in mind the EV and hybrid-powertrain applications. The company is working on an all-electric version of the Altroz, which is said to be slated for a 2021 launch. It will offer a driving range of 220-250 km. The new architecture will even help the company offer a class-leading luggage space and a flat floor for the rear passengers, which should ensure high practicality.

The Tata Altroz will become the second product, after the Tata Harrier, to be designed as per the IMPACT 2.0 philosophy. The known styling elements of the new model include a sleek pair of headlamps and tail lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, and C-pillar-mounted rear door handles.

The Tata Altroz will be available with an all-new 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated three-pot motor and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder oil-burner. The former will reportedly benefit from an optional dual-clutch automatic transmission and even a mild-hybrid setup.
