Harley-Davidson recently filed patents for its new products, the Pan America 1250, Streetfighter and Custom 1250 in the European market. Surprisingly, the patent images filed in Europe were seen with saree guards, an accessory that is mandatory on all two-wheelers in the Indian market. The addition of a saree guard hints that Harley-Davidson would introduce these latest products in India, thus indicating how important our market is for the American cruiser brand.

The European patent images were seen with saree guard, an accessory that is mandatory for all two-wheelers sold in India. This indicates how vital the Indian market is for the two-wheeler brand and that we should get the new models soon after the global launch.

The Pan America 1250 and the Streetfighter are equipped with the saree guard while the Custom 1250, being a rider-only model, does not require the accessory.

The three models are part of More Roads to Harley-Davidson growth plan. The More Roads to Harley-Davidson plan includes the addition of new products while, at the same time, keep current riders engaged. The American cruiser brand aims to extend its heavyweight leadership and unlock new markets and segments. All three products would use a new modular middleweight platform. More models, based on the modular platform, would arrive in 2022.

As part of the strategy, Harley-Davidson will unveil its first adventure tourer motorcycle, the Pan America 1250, and a 975 cc Streetfighter. The production-spec models are scheduled to arrive in the international markets in 2020. Therefore, it is safe to assume that they would debut at the 2019 EICMA show. Given that the Indian market is so crucial for the American cruiser brand, we could see the new models arrive on our shores towards mid- or late-2020.

More specifically for the developing markets, Harley-Davidson would develop a small-displacement (250 cc to 500 cc segment) motorcycle. The motorcycle would be specific to emerging markets in Asia and would be manufactured through a strategic alliance. Harley-Davidson would build the new small-displacement bike at its Bawal plant in Haryana. The new model would be positioned below the Harley-Davidson Street 750 and the Street Rod, so expect a sub-INR 5 lakh price tag. Currently, the company's entry-level model in the Indian market is the Street 750 that retails for an ex-showroom price tag of INR 5.31 lakh.

Apart from new products, Harley-Davidson would create high-engagement customer experiences across all retail channels. The company would also establish strategic alliances with global leading e-commerce providers to extend access to Harley-Davidson.
