Tata Harrier launched in India, priced from INR 12.69 lakh

Tata Motors has launched its most anticipated SUV of the year, the Harrier, for a starting price of INR 12.69 lakh*. Sitting above the Hexa, this is the homegrown automaker’s new flagship model.

The 5-seat Tata Harrier is built on a Land Rover-derived platform that will spawn a 7-seat C-SUV also this year.

The Tata Harrier is available in four grades: XE**, XM***, XT and XZ and in five exterior colours: Calisto Copper, Thermisto Gold, Ariel Silver, Telesto Grey and Orcus White. Features like halogen projector headlamps with (bulb-type) LED DRLs, LED tail lights, Aero Throttle-style Piano Black parking brake, 4” LCD segmented driver information display, 4-way adjustable driver seat, rear AC vents, dual-front airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, front SBR and speed sensitive door lock are included in the most basic grade.

The range-topping XZ grade packs more advanced features like Xenon HID projector headlamps with LED DRLs that double as turn indicators, front fog lamps with cornering function, 17-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, 8-way adjustable driver seat, 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 9-speaker JBL audio system, semi-digital instrument cluster and Terrain Response system.

The XZ grade is much higher on safety too. It includes six airbags, ESP, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Roll Over Mitigation, Corner Stability Control, Electronic Traction Control, reverse parking camera and much more.

The Tata Harrier is available with only a 2.0-litre diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, but an AT option is planned.

The Tata Harrier sits on a modified version of Jaguar Land Rover’s D8 platform. Under the hood, there’s a rebranded version of FCA’s 2.0L MultiJet II diesel engine. Called ‘Kryotec’, it produces 103 kW (140 PS) at 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1,750-2,500 rpm. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard. Tata Motors hasn't revealed the fuel economy rating.

As for the dimensions, the all-new C-SUV is 4,598 mm long, 1,894 mm wide and 1,706 mm tall. It has a 2,741 mm wheelbase and a 205 mm ground clearance. It offers 425 litres of boot space with the rear seats upright. Folding down the rear seats, the luggage space increases to 810 litres.
