At a time when bike manufacturers are launching updated ABS & FI variants, UM Lohia India has launched the carburettor version of the UM Renegade Commando Classic at INR 1.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The introduction of the carburettor variant has resulted in a price reduction of INR 6,000 as compared to the fuel-injected version. There don’t seem to be any changes to the mechanicals or cosmetics of the UM Renegade Commando Classic. That said, the carburetted variant develops lower outputs.
Powering the UM Renegade Commando Classic is the 279.5cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, which comes mated to a 5-speed transmission. The engine produces 23.7 PS of power and 23 Nm of peak torque. In comparison, the FI variant develops 25.15 PS of power, while the torque output remains unchanged.
While the carburetted variant will offer similar power delivery in low-end and mid-range, it will lack top-end grunt owing to the lower power figures. Surprising, UM has skipped offering ABS in this update, which will be made mandatory two-wheelers above 125cc from 1 April 2019.
UM Lohia India has not revealed details on the bookings or the delivery timeframe of the bike. The Renegade Commando Classic carburettor variant is expected to reach dealerships in the coming weeks. The bike is priced at a premium when compared to its nearest rivals, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Thunderbird 350. In fact, the Jawa and the Jawa Forty-Two have been priced we below the Commando Classic.

The UM Renegade Commando Classic is a true-blue American cruiser in its design. It features a muscular fuel tank and large fenders at both the ends. The motorcycle receives split seats with a backrest, round headlight and a tall windscreen. There’s a decent amount of chrome detailing on the bike. The classic looks are augmented by chunky front telescopic forks, twin rear shocks and the wire-spoke wheels.
