It has come to light that the Toyota Yaris is being sold with offers worth INR 1 lakh. The discounts on Toyota Kirloskar Motor's first-ever C2-segment sedan are being provided in the form of price cuts, exchange bonus, and free accessories. Moreover, buyers benefit from the ‘Toyota Gold Rush’ scheme, under which the new customers receive a free gold coin.
Prices of the Toyota Yaris were announced towards the end of April 2018. In May 2018, sales stood at 2,843 units, which was marginally more than the 2,763 units of the Honda City that were dispatched to the dealers in the same time period. In fact, by the end of May 2018, TKM had shipped more than 4,000 units of the Yaris to its dealers, which helped the company achieve a double-digit sales growth of 20% for May.
Now, however, the company has failed to sustain the demand for its latest offering. In October 2018, only 421 units of the Yaris were dispatched to the dealers.
Interestingly, the Toyota Yaris is the only C2-segment sedan to be available without a diesel engine option. It's powered by a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine that outputs a maximum power of 109 PS along with a peak torque of 140 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a CVT unit. The gasoline-burner has an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 17.1 km/l for the manual transmission-equipped version and 17.8 km/l for the automatic variant.
The Toyota Yaris is available with a host of standard safety features, including 7 airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist. The top-spec trim is additionally available with front parking sensors, four rear parking sensors, reverse camera, VSC, HAC, TPMS and disc brakes on all wheels. Highlights of the equipment list include 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with navigation and gesture control, 15-inch alloy wheels, 8-way power adjustable driver seat, 60:40 split rear seats and adjustable rear centre headrest.
