Toyota Kirloskar Motor to offer extended warranty up to 2.2 lakh km

As per a new document that has surfaced on Team-BHP, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has started offering its customers an option to buy an extended warranty up to 2.2 lakh km on all its models. Till now, the maximum extension the owners could opt for was 5 year/1.8 lakh km.

The mileage extension for the extended warranty packages include all Toyota models in India, ranging from the Etios Liva to the LC 400.

The company offers a total of 10 extended warranty options, which provide an extension of one or two years with a mileage interval of 20,000 km to 1.6 lakh km. The 1.8-2.2 lakh km mileage warranty can be availed only during the 4th and 5th year of ownership. Currently, all the models in the Toyota Kirloskar Motor's range, which include the Etios Liva, Etios, Etios Cross, Yaris, Corolla Altis, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Camry, Land Cruiser Prad0, Prius, and Land Cruiser, are on sale with a standard manufacturer warranty of 3 years/1 lakh km. Prices of the extended warranty packages depend on the model and the age of the vehicle.

While Toyota Kirloskar Motor launched its first mass-market passenger vehicle, the Qualis, in January 2000, it introduced the first-ever extended warranty package only in June 2016. Until then, all Toyota models in India were available with a standard warranty package of 3 years/1 lakh km.

With an average monthly sales figure of 6,499 units, the Toyota Innova Crysta is the most popular model in the TKM's stable. The company's production facilities are located in Karnataka.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor released its first-ever extended warranty package in June 2016, more than 16 years after it launched the Qualis, its first-ever mass-market passenger vehicle.

In August 2018, it came to light that Suzuki plans to invest USD 1 billion in Toyota's manufacturing unit in Karnataka to produce its vehicles. TKM is said to be under-utilising its production capacity, and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd can possibly produce 1,50,000 units at the shared production plant annually.
