The Range Rover Velar reached Indian showrooms in December last year.

The Range Rover Velar reached Indian showrooms in December last year, with prices starting at INR 78.83 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Currently, it comes as a CBU from the UK, where production takes place alongside its platform mate, the Jaguar F-Pace, at the Solihull plant. By January 2019, JLR will start assembling the SUV from imported CKD kits at its Pune assembly plant.

The switch from CBU import to local assembly will lead to a lesser variety of available configurations, naturally, but on the plus side, it will lower prices. The Velar costs anywhere from INR 83.34 lakh for the most basic configuration to INR 1.46 crore for the First Edition model currently. There are 25 different configurations to choose from. With local assembly, prices should reduce by ~INR 10-14 lakh.

The Range Rover Velar is available in four different engine models in India: P250, P300 and D180 and D300. Their specifications are as follows:

  • P250 - 2.0-litre Ingenium turbocharged petrol engine (250 PS/365 Nm), 8-speed AT, AWD
  • P300 - 2.0-litre Ingenium turbocharged petrol engine (300 PS/400 Nm), 8-speed AT, AWD
  • D180 - 2.0-litre Ingenium turbocharged diesel engine (180 PS/430 Nm), 8-speed AT, AWD
  • D300 - 3.0-litre Ingenium twin-turbo diesel engine (300 PS/700 Nm), 8-speed AT, AWD
