VinFast, the first-ever volume automaker from Vietnam to have participated in a major international motor show, has unveiled the LUX SA2.0 SUV at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
The VinFast LUX SA2.0 is the result of a public vote by Vietnamese people. The company commissioned design sketches from Zagato, Pininfarina, Torino Design, and Italdesign Giugiaro, the four renowned design houses, and zeroed in on a design after voting from more than 60,000 participants. The winning entry, which was from Italdesign Giugiaro, was further improved by Pininfarina.
Underpinning the VinFast LUX SA2.0 is a unique platform developed by Austrian contract manufacturer Magna Steyr. This platform employs a fully independent suspension.
Powering the VinFast LUX SA2.0 is a newly developed 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 227 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The motor comes mated to a ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive drivetrain will feature a Borg Warner transfer case. The SUV can reach 100 km/h from standstill in 8.9 seconds in the rear-wheel-drive configuration and 9.1-seconds in an all-wheel-drive setup. The company is targetting a 5-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP crash tests.
