In August 2018, IAB reported that the Royal Enfield 650 platform could spawn different variants like Scrambler or Flat Tracker. In a recent development, rendering expert Oberdan Bezzi has digitally imagined the Royal Enfield Scrambler 650.
The Royal Enfield Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 use the same underpinnings, and thus, the Scrambler is not likely to be any different. The difference, however, will be in styling and the artist has presented quite an appealing picture. The new version is imagined in two variants – Scrambler Sport and Scrambler Classic.
The Scambler Sport features a high-set front fender, dual-purpose tyres and an upside-down telescopic front fork (as against conventional unit on the Royal Enfield 650 twins). The front wheel is imagined to be slightly larger than the rear. The dual-tone paint scheme gets satin black and bright colours. The fuel tank gets a relatively sharp design contrary to the curvy shape of the unit on the Interceptor INT 650. The side panel receives a flat-track motorcycle-styled design. The retro styling continues to the front, with a round headlight with chrome surround.
The instrument console features a round design with chrome rings. The engine and the rims on the Sport variant are imagined in black colour. To give the motorcycle good water wading capabilities, the exhaust has been placed higher than the conventional position – a typical scrambler motorcycle trait.
The Scrambler Classic, on the other hand, misses out on the high-set front fender. Instead, it gets a compact, chrome unit over the front wheel. The colour combination is imagined to be relatively subtle than the Scrambler sport to appeal to a more mature rider. Unlike the Scrambler Sport, the engine and the rims on the Classic gets a chrome finish.
As for the Specifications, the Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 is likely to mirror the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650. Powering both the motorcycles is a 648cc, parallel-twin cylinder, air & oil cooled, SOHC engine that delivers a maximum power of 47 bhp @ 7,250 rpm and a peak torque of 52 Nm @ 5,250 rpm. The single-piece forged counterbalanced crankshaft comes with 270-degree firing order. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Currently, only the North American prices of the Interceptor INT 650 are available. The motorcycle retails for USD 5,799 (INR 4.21 lakh) for the Standard colourways while the Custom and Chrome colourways are priced at USD 5,999 (INR 4.36 lakh) and USD 6,499 (INR 4.72 lakh) respectively. The Scrambler, too, will most likely come in the same price bracket.
Speaking about the possibility of introducing a Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 or Flat-Tracker 650 on the sidelines of the Royal Enfield Classic 350 Signals Edition launch event, Rudratej Singh, President - Royal Enfield, said,
When we talk about segments, an adventure tourer or a scrambler; we are an everyday use, accessible fun-motorcycling brand but yes, there will be certain leanings towards certain sides, which are fitting in the brand.

The new Royal Enfield 650 Twins, as told by Rudratej Singh, will arrive in the Indian market by the end of 2018 or in January 2019. The two-wheeler brand has remained tight-lipped about the India pricing, but a report from August 2018 suggests that the motorcycles will arrive in the INR 3 lakh range, which will make them the most affordable 650cc twin-cylinder products in the country.
