Instead of an Abarth Punto rivaling Maruti Swift Sport, India is said to get a Maruti Swift RS that would garner much bigger volumes. The first spy shots of this alleged VW Polo GT rival have surfaced online today, courtesy GaadiWaadi.

The rumoured Maruti Swift RS should cost roughly INR 8 lakhs.

The alleged Maruti Swift RS has been seen strapped on to what looks like a flatbed truck. Reportedly, the Maruti Swift RS will have a sportier character owing to various styling updates and a punchier motor. The test mule seen in these images sports 16-inch wheels and disc brakes on all four wheels.

Visually, save for the bigger wheels and the black exterior paint scheme that's not available on the Indian-spec model, the test mule looks much like the version on sale here. That said, the company is reportedly testing the K10C 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine of the Baleno RS on the Swift before commencing work on the styling upgrades. The imported turbo-petrol engine outputs a maximum power of 101.97 PS @ 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 150 Nm between 1,700 - 4,500 rpm. It should come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Going by the visual updates carried by the Baleno RS over its regular counterparts, the rumoured Maruti Swift RS could offer a sportier set of bumpers, side skirts, rear spoiler and a mesh design front grille with Burning Red trim. Similar Buring Red accents could be offered on the centre console, instrument cluster and front door pads. The interior features may include sports pedals and piano black accents as well.

Maruti Suzuki is yet to divulge official details on the alleged Swift RS. While the test unit that has been spotted isn't the regular version that has been on sale in India since February 2018, it could be an international variant that is here as a part of Suzuki's global testing programme.
