On 14 September, Mayank Pareek, President, Tata Motors (PV unit) told IAB that the company will launch a Tigor-based model 'shortly'. He also confirmed that the new model won't be the JTP variant, which is also slated to be introduced during the festive period.  In the latest development, Tata Motors has invited us to the launch of a new model on 10 October 2018. In all likeliness, the company will launch a special edition Tata Tigor.

The special edition Tata Tigor for this year's festive season will likely offer distinctive styling elements and additional features

Like the recently launched Tata Nexon Kraz, the special edition Tata Tigor could carry unique styling elements and extra features. In June 2018, Tata Motors launched the limited-edition Tigor Buzz, which offered several distinct styling features, such as Berry Red highlights and glossy black roof wrap. A similar theme was found on the inside. The limited-run model featured a piano black trim and Berry Red highlights. While it was based on the XE trim, it offered the equipment that is available on the XT variant.

Mechanically, the special edition Tata Tigor wont' have any changes. The sub-4-metre sedan has been available with two engine options -  1.2-litre Revotron petrol and 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel. The petrol motor is a three-cylinder unit that outputs a maximum power of 85 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 114 Nm at 3,500 rpm. The three-cylinder diesel engine, on the other hand, produces a maximum power of 70 PS at 4,000 rpm and a peak torque of 140 Nm between 1,800-3,000 rpm. Both the motors come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. A 5-speed AMT is optional but is unlikely to be offered on the limited-run model.

The Tata Tigor was launched in India in March 2017. Based on the Tiago, the sub-4-metre sedan has a monthly sales average of 2391 units*. So far, it hasn't been as popular as its hatchback sibling (7,975 units)*. The launch of the special edition Tata Tigor will be aimed at garnering a better response from the market during this year's festive period.
