According to a report from GaadiWaadi.com, the Maruti S-Cross petrol is arriving, likely as India’s most fuel efficient petrol UV with a mileage of over 18 km/l in the ARAI tests.
The Maruti S-Cross petrol will employ Suzuki’s new K15B 1.5-litre engine, as per the report. Introduced in the 2018 Suzuki Ertiga first and later in the 2018 Suzuki Jimny, this motor made it to the Maruti Ciaz earlier this month. In the Honda City rival, the naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit produces 77 kW (104.7 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm.
Like the 2018 Maruti Ciaz, the Maruti S-Cross petrol will feature the new generation Smart Hybrid mild-hybrid. The system has a Lithium-ion and lead Acid dual-battery set-up, and it offers idle start-stop, brake energy regeneration and torque assist. Transmission choices will include 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic.
The petrol engine’s introduction should help Maruti Suzuki boost sales for two reasons. The only available 1.3-litre diesel is putting off many who are citing its underpowered nature.

Currently, the Maruti S-Cross’ prices start at INR 8,61,512*. The introduction of the petrol engine will likely lower the starting price by around INR 1 lakh*, making the S-Cross more accessible. In 2019, Maruti Suzuki will likely swap the D13A 1.3-litre diesel engine with the new E15A 1.5-litre diesel engine that is currently under development.
